A day in the life of… Lauren Johnston

Marketing Placement Student

8:30 / 9AM

Get into the office, grab a cup of tea and catch up with the team – essential part of my morning!

My first job is to check company emails and respond to enquiries we have received through the website and forward them on to the correct department. I then spend some time looking through sector publications and social channels to see if there are any stories relevant to the industries we serve and distribute accordingly to other members of the team.

10AM

Today I have a meeting with our Managing Director Chris to discuss internal communications and employee rewards, as the company grows and our second premise is built, it is important that communication stays strong and everyone remains happy!

12PM

It’s one of my colleagues’ birthdays today, to celebrate we’re having a buffet in the canteen and everyone has clubbed together to sign a card and buy presents. Hip! Hip!

2PM

It’s time to do some reporting! I create a weekly marketing report, analysing trends in the data we’ve collected from social media, our website and email campaigns. This is important as it helps us to stay on track as a team and allows us to become more efficient.

4/5PM

In the afternoon I dedicate time to assisting with planning and organising our upcoming exhibition. This can be anything from liaising with stand designers to planning invitation designs and placing orders with suppliers.

The purchasing process also requires a high level of accuracy with a strict purchasing process in place. Learning how to accurately follow a process has really helped me to understand how the wider business operates. In addition to this, I have learnt how to deal with external suppliers in a professional manner.
